Weekending

There’s no denying this weekend had its share of strain. Disappointing news. Frayed nerves about the coming year. Temperatures too low for harvesting Brussels sprouts or cabbage. And two of us a bit poorly while the third was gone all day at market.

But sometimes – when we’re lucky – illness can be its own kind of nurse. Sometimes it’s life arriving with a pot of tea and a pile of blankets and firm orders to Take It Easy.

So we did. Paperwork: ignored. Gallant parenting ambitions: abandoned for Netflix, applesauce, and back rubs. The boy napped early and long. I watched three episodes of Downton Abbey and drank four cups of tea. We were both in bed before 8.

Morning found us much renewed, and Sunday was all waffles, sausage, coffee, pajamas sticky with maple syrup and fresh-squeezed-by-the-boy clementine juice, a warm fire, a slowly diminishing pile of dishes at sink’s edge, and frequent dance breaks with Frankie Valli, Bill Withers, and the Bee Gees. A few hours of work now while the boys run errands and get bagels, and then an afternoon at the bowling alley with a mess o’ friends! A bracing tonic indeed, all of it.

How was your weekend?

Days like this are good. Taking it easy without feeling guilty about it. We had a day like that yesterday too. Just doing what we wanted when we wanted. I’m so the rest renewed you for the fun of today!

Glad to hear you’re on the mend. Get out for a peek of that full moon later. Hoping it charges you right up.

The moon was breathtaking. I was the last one to bed last night and I stepped out on our back porch, even in the frigid cold and light freezing rain, to stare at it for a few minutes. So restorative.

I think that’s the only good thing about an illness, the forced slowing down. Glad you are feeling better already and I hope you can harvest your vegetables this week. I love Brussels sprouts!!

A year ago, I sat in a discussion (at a blogging conference) on NOT monetizing your joy. But I tried to do just that through blogging. Blogging is more my diary. And I became so infrequent in blogging because what I wanted to write “wasn’t good enough” or “wasn’t done.”

2013 has been interesting so far. 2012—I stepped back from a few things. Said no more. Realized that I wasn’t happy doing what I was doing. 2013—I stepped back more. Said no even more. Let go of some things. And I feel better and better.

And…I’m blogging a bit again. Just me, chatting. Not trying to do sponsored posts (well, I did talk about a book I’d read and liked), not trying to craft a good tutorial or anything like that. Just me. Talking about what we’re doing again. What our plans our.

It’s been refreshing. Just enjoy this space for being your’s. šŸ™‚ I have loved your Instagram stream and now flickr so I can’t wait to follow along!
